Puducherry/UNI: Lt Governor Kiran Bedi, as part of her 256th morning round on Saturday visited Alankuppam village on the outskirts of the town and adjacent to Auroville.

The Lt.Governor on a whatsapp post said this visit led to the formation of a women leadership group.

All seven presidents of 90 Self-Help Groups have been brought together as one Federation to work together with male panchayat of the village, she said.

There are unaddressed challenges in the village like clogged water channels running through Tamil Nadu areas due to which their three large lakes are dry.

Further, there is the need for a toilet required for their temple festivals or the location of waste dump, she added.

A coalition group of these seven presidents and the existing male panchayat was formed to meet every first Sunday of the month to the resolve issues.

They will begin with the first meeting on Sunday, Bedi said.

The Junior Engineer of the Municipality shall be a key coordinator to identify where the Municipality needs to be the main provider, while raising volunteers from within the community, she said.

A whatsapp network was established linking them with Special Commissioner Sunderesan and grievance officer, the Lt Governor added.
