Kanpur/UNI: A wanted criminal, carrying a reward of Rs 25,000 on his head, was arrested following a brief encounter in the Naubasta area of this Uttar Pradesh district, police said on Saturday.

Superintendent of Police (South) Arpana Gupta said that acting on a tip off, police tried to intercept miscreant Shahrukh at the Arra road, late Friday night.

The miscreant tried to escape upon which the cops started chasing him. Finding himself trapped, the outlaw opened fire at the police party.

In the retaliatory fire opened by the police, the miscreant sustained a bullet injury on his leg.
