Kolkata: Three BJP activists held for raising 'Goli Maro' slogan during Amit Shah's visit
Kolkata/IBNS: The Kolkata Police on Sunday midnight arrested three persons for chanting controversial 'Goli Maro' (Shoot them) slogan in the heart of the city during Union Home Minister Amit Shah's rally here, reports said on Monday.
According to senior city police officials, three people, Surendra Kumar Tiwari, Pankaj Prasad and Dhruba Basu, have been nabbed from New Market PS area.
Sources said that all of them were active members of BJP's lawyers' cell and chanted the controversial slogan while going to join Shah's rally at Shaheed Minar Maidan on Sunday.
"After examining footage of the incident, we identified the trio and arrested them," an official of Kolkata Police said.
Hours after the incident, Kolkata Police registered a suo moto FIR at New Market PS under IPC sections 153A (Promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race, place of birth, residence, language, etc., and doing acts prejudicial to maintenance of harmony), 505 (Statements conducing to public mischief), 506 (Criminal intimidation) and 34 (Acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) against 'unidentified' persons.
The arrested trio will be produced before a city court on Monday, according to reports.
Meanwhile, BJP's students' wing, ABVP, said it will hold demonstration in the city on Monday to protest the arrests of these BJP activists.
