Arvind Kejriwal meets PM Modi, discusses Delhi violence, Coronavirus

New Delhi/IBNS: For the first time after becoming the Delhi Chief Minister for the third term and a week after the deadly Delhi riot, Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Parliament and discussed the violence in the national capital and the spreading of novel Coronavirus in the country.

After his meeting with the Prime Minister, Kejriwal, who heads the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), told media, "I had a discussion with the Prime Minister over the Delhi violence. I told him anyone who had led to the violence should not be spared."

"Also I told him the way Delhi Police tackled the false rumours over the violence in last few days are praiseworthy but had the police been more active on last Monday and Tuesday (when the riot took place), the losses of so many lives could have been averted," the Chief Minister added.

"Discussed with PM Modi that necessary steps must be taken to ensure such incidents do not recur," he said.

However, Kejriwal said he didn't specifically discussed the hate speeches of several leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the outfit to which Prime Minister Modi belongs, just days before the Delhi violence.

Meanwhile, AAP councillor Md. Tahir Hussain has come under the scanner over the Delhi violence.

Md. Tahir Hussain, an AAP councilor from Ward no. 59 (Nehru Vihar) of East Delhi Municipal Corporation (EDMC), has also been blamed for inciting his community's people during the communal violence over Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) protest and leading an attack from his house's rooftop.

The AAP councilor, however, denied all allegations against him and claimed his house as well as rooftop were 'hijacked' by rioters.

While a case has been filed against Hussain, the AAP has suspended the councillor from the party.

Acting tough, Kejriwal had said, "No rioter should be spared irrespective of his political affiliation. He can belong to BJP or Congress or AAP but must be put to jail."

"If he belongs to the AAP, he must be doubly punished," the Chief Minister added

Regarding Coronavirus, Kejriwal said, "The central and Delhi governments will have to work together (to tackle the disease)."

"We (central and Delhi governments) decided that we should provide medicare to the infected as early as possible," he added.

The Chief Minister's words came just a day after two more patients were tested positive with the deadly Coronavirus in India.

One person has been detected with the COVID-19 in New Delhi and the other in Telangana.

Kejriwal met Modi weeks after his Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) crushed the BJP in the Delhi assembly elections bagging 62 of 70 seats ending a bitter month-long campaign trail.

Modi's BJP, the campaign of which was however spearheaded by Union Home Minister and the Prime Minister's party colleague Amit Shah, could manage to win just eight seats.
