New Delhi/UNI: Amid the crisis confronting the Congress party in Madhya Pradesh after senior party leader Jyotiraditya Scindia quit the party to join the BJP, the Congress on Wednesday said that its government in the state is stable and expressed confidence that it would prove the numbers in the state assembly.

Addressing mediapersons here, AICC senior spokesperson Anand Sharma said,’’we have the numbers and will prove our majority in the state assembly.’’

Charging the BJP of making efforts to destabilise the Congress government in the state, Mr Sharma said,’’the BJP’s action is against political morality. It is an insult of the people’s mandate.’’

‘’ BJP excels in poaching and abduction of MLAs. This modus operandi has been followed by them in Arunachal , Goa, Manipur and Karnataka,’’Mr Sharma said.

On Mr Scindia’s resignation from the Congress, Sharma said,’’ the party has nurtured him. It is his decision . It is sad and unfortunate.’’

In fast paced political developments in the Congress, senior party leader Jyotiraditya Scindia on Tuesday quit the Congress.

In a quick reaction, the Congress expelled him for anti-party activities.

The resignation of Mr Scindia has put the Kamal Nath Government in Madhya Pradesh on the edge of a precipice with several MLAs close to Scindia sending in their resignations to the high command.
