Decline in road accidents after new MV Act: Nitin Gadkari
New Delhi/UNI: Since the introduction of the new Motor Vehicle Act last year, there has been a significant reduction in road accidents in the country, Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari told the Lok Sabha on Thursday.
Responding to a supplementary question raised by Nationalist Congress Party Member Mohammad Faizal PP from Lakshadweep, the Minister said the introduction of Motor Vehicle (Amendment) Act 2019 has led to a significant decline in road crashes across the country.
His Ministry, Gadkari said, has ordered the formation of a committee under the chairmanship of the MPs of the concerned districts to identify the "black spots" which are causing fatal accidents on various highways across the country.
He urged all MPs to actively participate in this committee and help in implementing the central government's plan.
Expressing concern over the increasing road accidents in Punjab, Aam Aadmi Party member Bhagwant Mann said that there are 138 such lethal places in various places in Punjab and four of his own friends have lost their lives due to stray cattle.
