Covid-19 Scare: West Bengal announces lockdown measures
Kolkata/IBNS: After receiving Centre's advisory to put 75 Indian districts with confirmed Covid-19 cases or casualties under lockdown, West Bengal government on Sunday evening announced implementation of the measure in Kolkata and other corporation and municipality areas in the state from Monday 5 pm. till Mar 27 midnight to combat Coronavirus outbreak in the region, officials said.
Issuing a three-page order, the state government said that only essential and emergency services and movements will be kept out of the lockdown.
State authorities said that the "complete safety restrictions" order will cover a major area of West Bengal.
"Besides the entire area of Kolkata metro city, all major district towns and few districts entirely will be put on lockdown as a measure against the spread of Covid-19," a state official said.
Earlier in the afternoon, the Central government issued an advisory urging state governments to put 75 districts, from where Covid-19 cases had been reported, on a complete lockdown.
India reported seven deaths of patients suffering from COVID 19.
Over 300 people are infected by the virus so far.
The virus, which first originated from China, has now spread across different corners of the globe.
