Rise in COVID 19 cases: 75 districts in India to be put under lockdown, trains canceled

New Delhi/IBNS: In a bid to break the march of the deadly coronavirus in the nation, which has already claimed seven lives,  railway, metro and interstate bus services will soon be stopped on Monday and 75 districts across India will be put under lockdown from Monday.

The virus, which has hit normal lives in over 150 nations across the globe, has infected over 350 people in India.

India observed 'Janata Curfew' (peoples lockdown) on Sunday, one of the latest measures introduced by the Centre following Prime Minister Narendra Modi's appeal on Thursday, to combat the virus which originated from China's Wuhan region.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday said the national capital will remain under lockdown from  6 AM on Monday till Mar 31.

Kejriwal said essential services will be available during this period.

Similar measures have been announced by governments of different states.

West Bengal government on Sunday evening announced implementation of the measure in Kolkata and other corporation and municipality areas in the state from Monday 5 pm. till Mar 27 midnight to combat Coronavirus outbreak in the region.  

Country's rail ministry on Sunday declared to suspend all passenger train services till Mar 31 midnight.

According to reports, all long-distance mail/express/premium trains, intercity passenger trains, suburban local trains and Kolkata metro rail services will remain closed from tonight till Mar 31.

Indian Railways officials said that those trains, which had commenced their journey before 4 am. on Sunday (Mar 22), will run up to their destinations while freight train operations will be run normally in the country.  

Kolkata Metro services shall also remain suspended till March 31, said reports. West Bengal government also suspended interstate bus service till March 31.
