PM CARES Fund receives massive response with celebrities contributing in crores
New Delhi/IBNS: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday announced the Prime Minister's Citizen Assistance and Relief in Emergency Situations Fund (PM CARES Fund), and soon Bollywood celebrities, large corporates, sportspersons, associations, including the richest cricket board of the world BCCI, and the common people came forward to help the Indian Government in its fight against the coronavirus situation in the country.
Soon after the announcement of the PM CARES Fund by PM Modi, Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar contributed Rs 25 crore.
The actor tweeted, "This is that time when all that matters is the lives of our people. And we need to do anything and everything it takes. I pledge to contribute Rs 25 crores from my savings to @narendramodi ji’s PM-CARES Fund. Let’s save lives, Jaan hai toh jahaan hai."

Within hours of the fund's announcement, Indian cricketer Suresh Raina donated Rs 31 lakh to PM CARES Fund and Rs 21 lakh to Uttar Pradesh chief minister’s disaster relief fund to help in their fight against coronavirus.

Responding to the Prime Minister's appeal, MD & CEO Motilal Oswal group pledged Rs 5 crore to the PM CARES fund.

The IPS and IAS Associations, too, made contributions to the PM CARES fund. PM Modi praised their commitment towards the nation amid coronavirus situation in the country.

With a pledge of Rs 30 lakh, Bollywood actor Varun Dhawan became one of the first few celebrities from the tinsel town to make his contributions to the fund.
"I pledge to contribute 30 lakhs to the PM CARE fund. We will over come this. Desh hai toh hum hain," Varun tweeted.

Singer Guru Randhawa too contributed. He will be donating Rs 20 lakhs to the fund.
Earlier, the PM had tweeted welcoming micro-donations encouraging common people to come forward for the cause.
The PM-CARES Fund accepts micro-donations too. It will strengthen disaster management capacities and encourage research on protecting citizens.

Later in the day, Board of Control for Cricket(BCCI) in India in a statement said that it would contribute Rs 51 crores to the PM CARES Fund.

"Mr Sourav Ganguly, President, Mr Jay Shah, Honorary Secretary and Office Bearers of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) along with the affiliated state associations on Saturday announced to donate INR 51 crores to the Prime Minister’s Citizen Assistance and Relief in Emergency Situations Fund (PM-CARES Fund) to contribute towards strengthening the nation’s disaster management capacities and encourage research to combat COVID-19 and protect Indian citizens," the statement said.
The statement added: "The outbreak of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) is first and foremost a public health emergency and the BCCI has a firm resolve that the nation gets all possible help to cope with the testing times."
Hours after announcing a contribution of Rs 500 crore towards tackling the COVID-19 situation in India, Tata Trusts on Saturday increased their commitment to the cause with an additional Rs 1000 crore.
In a statement Tata Sons Chairman N. Chandrasekaran said, Tata Sons announces an additional Rs. 1000 Crores support towards COVID-19 and related activities. We will work together with the Tata Trusts and our Chairman Emeritus Mr. Tata and would be fully supporting their initiatives, and work in a collaborative manner to bring the full expertise of the group."
"In addition to the initiatives articulated by Tata Trusts, we are also bringing in the ventilators necessary and are gearing up to also manufacture the same soon in India," he added.
"The country is facing an unprecedented situation and crisis. All of us would have to do whatever it takes to alleviate and enhance the quality of lives of the communities we serve," he stated.
