Guwahati/IBNS: At a time when India along with the rest of the world is fighting against the novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) and over 30,000 people have already lost their lives, a man from Assam has wished to donate his lands to the government to build a COVID-19 treatment hospital.

Krishna Mahanta, a 42-year-old resident of Kaliabor area in Assam’s Nagaon district, has expressed his desire to donate 10 bigha land (about 4.005 acres) to the Assam government to construct a hospital for treatment of the COVID-19 patients.

A businessman by profession, Krishna Mahanta has sent a letter to the Kaliabor Sub-Divisional Officer informing about his wish.

According to the reports, the Kaliabor Sub-Divisional Officer has forwarded his letter to the Assam government.

In the letter sent to the state government, Krishna Mahanta wrote: “In this moment of human crisis, the world is working day and night to save the people. This will be written in history. We are ready to donate 10 bigha land at Kalibor to build a hospital for medical treatment of the COVID-19 patients.”

Krishna Mahanta said that the entire world is now under the grip of the deadly virus and nearly a thousand people are affected in India also.

“Our family has decided to donate 10 bigha land to the government to construct a COVID-19 hospital. We hope that, the government will accept this,” Krishna Mahanta iterated.

In the wake novel Coronavirus outbreak, Assam Health Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday said the state government is planning to build five new hospitals specially for COVID-19 patients.

No positive case of COVID-19 has been reported in Assam so far.
