Ranchi/UNI: A 100-member screening team of health department, which was sent to Hindpiri area here, for screening the people for COVID-19 in the area, had to face a huge resentment from the people after which they were forced to return.

Hindpiri has been identified as the epicentre of coronavirus in the city after a Malaysian woman  tested positive for the infection becoming the first COVID-19 case in Jharkhand. The administration has imposed a curfew in the area.

After the team reached the area, none of the people agreed to undergo the required test and created an uproar following which Sadar SDO had to reach the spot and tried to pursue the people but no one agreed.

The people clearly said that they will not undergo any test after which the team returned back.

However, later in the day a meeting was held in the daily market in the area where it was agreed that people would undergo screening late in the evening.

The people of Hindpiri despite the curfew came down on the roads and indulged in slogan shouting against the district administration after which additional security personnel were deployed in the area.

Police used mikes to make announcements asking them to remain in their homes.

Justifying the resistance, Ward Councillor of the area Sajda Khatoon said no one in the area is infected by coronavirus and on the contrary the people were likely to be infected if the medical team went to their homes.
