Prayagraj/IBNS: A group of unidentified assailants killed a 29-year-old youth on Sunday after he allegedly blamed the members of a community and the Tablighi Jamaat for spreading coronavirus in the country, media reports said.

According to police, the attackers rained bullets on the youth when he was standing outside his house in Kareli, an Indian Express report said.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed to book the accused under National Security Act(NSA) and announced an exgratia of Rs 5 lakh to the family of the deceased.

According to the report, Prayagraj circle officer Amit Srivastava said locals have claimed that the victim had blamed the people of a particular community and members of the Tablighi Jamaat for spreading coronavirus in the country while speaking to a small group of people.

After a while, he left the group and returned, when he was shot by some people outside his house.

Srivastava said the bullet hit his head and he died on the spot, the report added.

Two people have been detained in connection with the killing and are being interrogated, he stated.
