Assam government to register case against Tablighi Jamaat attendees who fail to report for testing
Guwahati/IBNS: The Assam government has taken a decision to register case against the Tablighi Jamaat attendees from the state who failed to report for testing for COVID-19 by Monday.
Assam Health minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday said Assam government will register case against the Tablighi Jamaat attendees for willful disobedience under the Disaster Management Act.
“A series of meeting were held with different mosque committee, state Tablighi Jamaat committee to identify the Tablighi Jamaat attendees at Nizamuddin Markaz. We also appealed the people to come forward, but many people are still hiding. We hope that, they will come forward for testing by today evening. If they will come forward by today evening, then the Assam government will register case against them and this decision was taken by the state Task Force,” Himanta Biswa Sarma said.
He further said there is no report of a single positive case for COVID-19 in the state in past 24 hours.
The state has reported 26 positive cases for COVID-19 so far and out of these 25 cases are related with the Nizamuddin Markaz.
The Assam minister said the state had received four lists of 556 people from the centre who attended the Tablighi Jamaat at Nizamuddin Markaz.
“Apart from the centre lists, we have also identified 275 people in the state through local surveillance. We have found that 50 people had not returned back to Assam and another 100 people were not involved with the Nizamuddin Markaz. Our task was to collect about 617 samples, but 128 samples are yet to be collected,” Himanta Biswa Sarma said.
It is to be mentioned that on Sunday police detained nine Tablighi Jamaat attendees from Kharupetia area in Darrang district and they hailing from Maharashtra.
On the other hand, the Assam Health minister said the state has now 3941 PPE kits, 36487 N95 masks and over 7.28 lakh triple layer masks.
“We hope that, another 5000 PPE kits will be arrived in the state soon,” Himanta Biswa Sarma said.
According to the reports, about 2000 samples have been tested in five laboratories in the state so far and out of them 1809 test results have found negative and 165 results are awaited.
