Police arrest AIUDF MLA for remarks calling COVID-19 quarantine centre worst than detention camp

Guwahati/IBNS: Police have arrested an opposition MLA in Assam for making objectionable remarks about the conditions of quarantine facilities and calling it worst than detention camps.

According to the reports, police had arrested All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) MLA Aminul Islam who represents Dhing constituency in Nagaon district on Tuesday morning.

An audio clip containing a telephonic conversation between the AIUDF MLA and a person went viral on social media.

Assam DGP Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta said that, the MLA was apprehended by the Nagaon district police early in the morning after interrogation.

The Assam DGP also said that, a case has been taken up against the MLA.

Earlier, the AIUDF MLA had also made some objectionable remarks over Nizamuddin Markaz event.

He claimed that, nobody from the Tablighi Jamaat attendees had tested positive for COVID-19 and the quarantine centres set up by the government are worst than detention camps and it is a government conspiracy to kill a section of people.

He was charged with an attempt to communalize the government’s effort to combat against COVID-19 outbreak and also criticizing government’s initiative.

On Monday night, a police team of Nagaon district took him from his Dhing residence and interrogated him the whole night.

Later, the Nagaon district police had arrested the opposition MLA.

Nagaon district Superintendent of Police (SP) Abhijit Gaurav said that, a case (no – 877/2020) has been registered at Nagaon Sadar police station against the MLA under section 120(B), 150(A), 124(A), 295(A) of IPC.

“We have seized his mobile phone and also found the audio clip in his mobile phone. Our investigation is going on,” the police official said.
