Indian government extends lockdown till May 3, PM Modi announces during address to nationÂ
New Delhi/IBNS: The Indian government on Tuesday extended the lockdown to combat COVID-19 outbreak till May 3.
The announcement of 19 more days of lockdown was made by PM Narendra Modi during his address to the nation.
"We will now increase the lockdown till May 3," Modi said.
He asked the people to be cautious.
"We have to be much more cautious now. We have to keep watch on possible hotspots. New hotspots will give us more challenges and create problems. Till next week, the stringency will be increased.
"Till April 20 we will keep constant watch on every district, police station area," he said.

He said limited relaxation will be given to people from April 20 in those areas where there is no violation of lockdown.
Modi urged people to take care of older citizens.
"Please take care of older people," he said.
He asked people use face covers and increase immunity.
Modi urged people to help the poor people of the society.
He asked businessmen not to remove their workers from jobs.
Modi asked people to respect doctors, nurses and policemen who are working hard in this fight against COVID-19.
The number of COVID-19 cases in India has crossed 10,000.
As per latest Ministry of Health website, the number of deaths in the country due to COVID-19 outbreak stands at 339.
So far, 1035 people have recovered from COVID-19 or they have been discharged from hospital.
Seven suggestions from Prime Minister Narendra Modi:
1. Look after the seniors in your family. They need extra care. You have to keep them away from coronavirus.
2. Abide by all social distancing and lockdown norms. Use masks made at home.
3. To increase your immunity, follow the Ayush ministry recommendations.
4. Download the Arogya Setu mobile app
5. Look after poor people, feed them.
6. Take care of your people if you run an enterprise, do not fire anyone.
7. Respect the corona fighters of India like doctors, nurses, cleaning workers.
