New Delhi/IBNS: A fresh controversy emerged over communal lines, after Aam Admi Paty MLA Amanatullah Khan on Friday tweeted a video showing a Delhi policeman has issued an order banning Azaan.

Tweeting the video, Khan sought an answer from the LG if he had issued an order banning azaan in mosques, and added that he had spoken to the Delhi Police Commissioner and he was looking into the matter. He further said: "I request the honourable LG not to inflict more injuries on Delhi. We all want to live together in harmony."

In the video, a woman can be seen asking two policemen if there would be no Azaan and how the people were supposed to break their day-long fast during Ramzan.

The cops tell her she should "Fight with the LG. He is the one to stop it".

Rejecting the claims that there was a ban on azaan in mosques, Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia tweeted there was only prohibition on assembly of people in mosques and all other religious places.

The Delhi Police also urged the people to offer namaz, break their Roza and have their pre-dawn meal in their own places.

"I wish people on Ramzan.I appeal to people to offers prayers and have 'sehri' (pre-dawn meal) at home during the holy month. Azaan should be offered as per the guidelines of the National Green Tribunal. Please do not venture out of your homes during the lockdown," MS Randhawa, the Delhi Police PRO, said in a video message, reported news agency ANI.

Yesterday, the Shahi Imam of Delhi's Jama Masjid Ahmad Bukhari had also urged the Muslims to stay indoors and offer prayers in their homes. He averred that following government's lockdown regulations would eradicate the deadly coronavirus and protect everyone.

Muslims across the world on Friday started marking the month of Ramzaan amid strict lockdown and prohibition on gatherings to control the spread of deadly coronavirus
