Govt should ensure well being of Andhra fishermen stranded in Gujarat: Rahul Gandhi
New Delhi/UNI: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Saturday said that the NDA government should ensure safety and well being of fishermen from Andhra Pradesh stranded in Gujarat due to the lockdown.
In a post on social media, Gandhi said, "Over 6,000 fishermen from AP, stranded in Gujarat, have been confined to their tiny fishing trawlers for over a month, in unhygienic conditions with limited food and water. I appeal to the Govt to move my brothers to relief camps and ensure their well being."
He posted a news report which claimed that the fishermen are forced to stay on their trawlers and are without food and water.
Earlier criticising the Modi government's move to freeze Dearness Allowance (DA) and Dearness Relief (DR) in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic, Gandhi had said, "I see the problem is that you (Centre) are building the central vista at the same time. So either you are not sort of doing this extravagant expenditures but you are taking away money from the middle class, not giving money to the poor people and spending on the central vista." (sic)
As the pandemic virus has engulfed the country with number of cases surging in each day, the central government has freezed the DA, DR hike till July 2021 in view of the Covid which has left a deep negative impact on the country's economy.
