Coronavirus lockdown: Assam government extends inter-district travel to Apr 30
Guwahati/IBNS: Assam government has extended the inter-district travel for stranded people in different parts of the state amid COVID-19 lockdown to Apr 30.
Assam Health minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday said the state government has decided to allow two-way travel for the stranded people with their own vehicles till Apr 30 to facilitate the people to bring back their family members stranded in other places.
Earlier, the state government had allowed inter-district travel for the stranded people on Apr 25, 26 and 27.
“A total of 73,000 people who have own vehicle and stranded in different places in the state had applied for e-passes and the district Deputy Commissioners had provided e-passes for one way to 26,900 people. 34,559 people had applied for round trip (two-way travel) and the Deputy Commissioner had rejected those applications. But, the state government has decided to allow round trip (two-way travel) for the stranded people till April 30,” Himanta Biswa Sarma said.
On the other hand, the state government has also allowed the Assam State Transport Corporation (ASTC) to continue their services for facilitating the travel of the stranded people till Apr 30.
A total of 41,651 people who stranded in different places in the state had applied through 104 and the first day on Apr 25, the ASTC put 323 buses into service for facilitating the travel of around 5,000 registered passengers for short distance journey in 18 districts.
To ensure social distancing, each ASTC bus carried 15-20 passengers within short distances only.
On Sunday, the ASTC has arranged 800 buses to transport 12,000 more people from different locations in the state.
