New Delhi/IBNS: The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has received a proposal to run clinical trials on Ganga water to find if it can be used in the treatment of the deadly coronavirus, a media report said.

According to a Times Now report, National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG), under Jal Shakti Ministry, sent the proposal on the request of Atulya Ganga, an organisation run by Army veterans.

Ganga water is said to contain phages with anti-microbial properties which has scientific references, according to Atulya Ganga founder, Major Manoj Keshwar (retd), said the report.

He said India is blessed to have a holy river like Ganga and people should look up to it for a cure of the deadly disease.

Meanwhile, industrial shut down has allowed the holy river of India to heal. Reports said the quality of Ganga water has improved 40-50 per cent due to the continuous lockdown.
