Kolkata's private health facilities likely to face crisis after Manipur takes back 185 nurses from Bengal
Kolkata/IBNS: After witnessing Manipur's action to take back 185 staff nurses, who were working at different private health facilities across Kolkata and its adjoining areas, and accessing some source inputs that few more North-Eastern states as well as Odisha likely to follow the same way, authorities of multiple renowned private hospitals in the city are fearing an unprecedented healthcare crisis in the state amid the pandemic, reports said.
According to reports, after getting call and movement pass from Manipur government, as many as 185 staff nurses attached with multiple health facilities resigned from their jobs and they are on their way to Manipur's capital Imphal.
Director of a privately run hospital in Kolkata's EM Bypass area said that if all states started doing this, healthcare services would be in big trouble in the city.
"As the number of nurses from our state is not adequate in respect to the demands, private healthcare facilities in Kolkata are very much dependent of the nurses who come from Odisha, few NE states, including Manipur, Tripura, Mizoram and Meghalaya, and South Indian states, including Kerala and Karnataka," the hospital's director said.
"If all states start doing the same like Manipur and staff nurses at such a huge number start resigning from their jobs as well as leaving the city, we, the private healthcare facilities, will definitely face a major challenge in near future," he added.
An order by the Home Secretary of Manipur, which was issued on May 9, revealed that the northeastern state has issued entry passes for 185 nurses and 132 others from Kolkata, while sources claimed that few other states, including Tripura and Odisha, likely to follow the same path like Manipur soon.
