Srinagar/UNI:  Three drug peddlers were arrested and contraband was recovered in two separate incidents in Kashmir valley on Sunday.

A police spokesperson said that a drug peddler, identified as Mudasir Ahmad Yatoo, was arrested at a checkpoint in Tral south Kashmir district of Pulwama on Sunday.

"During checking, officers were able to recover 20 bottles of Codeine Phosphate from his possession,'' he said, adding that a case has been lodged in Police Station Tral. ''The arrested drug peddler is involved in selling of narcotic drugs in the areas of Awantipora,'' he said.

In Budgam, he said a checkpoint was established at Exchange crossing Charar-e-Sharief following specific information about transportation of drugs. ''Police intercepted one vehicle at the checkpoint and during checking recovered 450 grams of Charas,'' he said, adding two people onboard were immediately taken into custody.

''The accused have been identified as Tariq Ahmad Dar and Noor Mohammad Bhat. Vehicle used in the commission of crime has also been seized,'' he said.

He said cases in both the incidents have been registered and investigation has been taken up.
Community members are requested to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighbourhood. Persons found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law, he added.
