Bengal records highest single-day spike in Covid-19 cases, tally jumps to 4536

Kolkata/IBNS: West Bengal on Thursday reported the highest single-day spike of 344 new coronavirus cases taking the state's total tally to 4,536.

The state's fatality toll stood at 223 with six new deaths in the last 24 hours. Of these 72 deaths were due to comorbidity, West Bengal Health Department's official bulletin stated.

A total of 1,668 patients have been discharged leaving 2,573 active cases.

The state's recovery rate from the highly contagious virus has been 36.77 per cent.

So far 1,75,769 people have been tested for the virus and the state has dedicated 69 hospitals for the treatment of COVID-19 positive patients.

With the migrants returning to the state, the Mamata Banerjee government now fears an explosion in the number of cases.

Meanwhile, the county reported 6,566 new infections and 194 deaths in the last 24 hours between Wednesday and Thursday mornings.

With the addition of new cases, the COVID-19 cases in India jumped to 1,58,333.
