Raipur/IBNS: Ajit Jogi, the first Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh, died on Friday after prolonged illnesses. He was 74.

The former Congress leader is survived by his wife Renu Jogi, MLA from Kota and son Amit Jogi.

The hospital where the veteran leader was undergoing treatment said his condition deteriorated around 1:30 pm today after he suffered a cardiac arrest. His death came at 3:30 pm as doctors tried to revive him from the heart attack, but failed.

Chief Minister Bhupesh Bhagel announced a three-day state mourning in the memory of the first chief minister of the state.

Jogi had suffered a cardiac arrest earlier this month and had been admitted to a Raipur hospital since then.

His son Amit Jogi tweeted the news of the death of his father. "All of 20, the young state of Chattisgarh today lost its father. My father is no more, but I am not alone in the loss, the state lost its guardian, too. He left a family of 2.5 crore people of Chhatisgarh for his heavenly abode."

He also said the funeral will take place tomorrow at his native place Gorela.

Ajit Jogi and his son left Congress in 2017 after they got embroiled in a seat fixing row in 2014.
