Guwahati/UNI: At least 20 people, including children, were killed in separate landslide incidents in Barak valley of Assam since Monday night, official sources said on Tuesday.

They said that incessant rains led to multiple landslides in all three districts of Cachar, Hailakandi and Karimganj of Barak valley.

Seven deaths each have been reported from Karimganj and Hailakandi while six casualties have been confirmed from Cachar so far.

The death toll is likely to increase as victims are feared to be trapped in the debris. Several houses were damaged in all the incidents.

Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal has expressed his condolence to the families of the deceased. He has ordered for rescue and relief operations of all injured in the landslides.

The Chief Minister has also instructed for expeditious payment of ex-gratia to the deceased families.
