New Delhi/IBNS: Delhi  Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal allowed the release of model Jessica Lal murder convict Manu Sharma.

After the approval, he was released from the Tihar Jail in New Delhi.

He was released after Baijal allowed it following his accepting of the recommendations of the Sentence Review Board (SRB) which met last month.

The seven-member SRB had met to decide on the release of 34 convicts, including Sharma, who are all eligible for release. The board’s recommendation were sent to Baijal, reported Hindustan Times.

A politician's son, Manu Sharma is serving life imprisonment for the murder of Jessica at a socialite's party  in 1999 when he shot the upcoming model for refusing him a drink after the bar was closed.

Jessica was a bartender in the party of Bina Ramani when the incident occurred, triggering a long legal crusade for the family of the victim who finally got justice after a media uproar and a civil society movement.

Sharma is the son of the Congress leader Venod Sharma.

The murder of Jessica inspired a Bollywood movie titled No One Killed Jessica, starring Vidya Balan and Rani Mukerji.
