Cyclone Nisarga weakens into deep depression; Mumbai spared from its wrath
Nashik/IBNS: Severe cyclonic storm Nisarga has weakened into a deep depression and is travelling towards Nashik, Dhule and Nandurbar districts, travelling at a speed of 20 kmph, with wind speeds ranging between 90-100 kmph, gusting to 110 kmph, the Indian Meteorological Department has said.
The cyclone made a landfall at Maharashtra's Raigad at 12:30 pm and crossed Alibagh an hour later at 1:30 pm an hour later, IMD director general Mrutunjay Mohapatra said. It moved towards northeast Maharashtra, sparing Mumbai and other areas.

In order to deal with the aftermath of the cyclone, National Disaster Relief Force (NDRF) teams, 21 in Maharashtra and 16 in Gujarat, have been deployed.

Reports said, at least two people died in Raigarh in separate incidents.
"The system has weakened into a cyclonic storm and lay centered at 16.30 hrs near lat 19.0 deg N and Long 73.7deg E (Pune District) over interior Maharashtra about 100 km east north east of Alibagh, 90 km east of Mumbai (Colaba) and 50 km north northwest of Pune. The system is being continuously tracked by the Doppler Weather Radars (DWRs) at Mumbai and Goa," the IMD said in a statement at 6 pm.
At 8:30 pm the cyclone lay centered 120 km east-northeast of Alibag, 100 km east of Mumbai and 85 km north of Pune, said an Indian Express report.

Power supply to more than 25 lakh consumers of Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company (MSEDC) in four districts of Raigad, Palghar, Thane and Pune was disrupted due to the Cyclone Nisarga.
NDRF chief SN Pradhan said the worst is over as the cyclone weakened and added the loss and destruction to life and propert due to the cyclone was minimal, media reports said.
