SC dismisses CBI's plea challenging Chidamabaram's bail in INX media case

New Delhi/IBNS: The Supreme Court on Thursday dismissed a review petition filed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) against former union minister and senior Congress leader P Chidambaram's bail in the INX Media case.

"Application for oral hearing the review petition in open court is rejected. We have perused the Review Petition and the connected papers carefully and are convinced that the order, of which review has been sought, does not suffer from any error apparent warranting its reconsideration. The Review Petition is, accordingly, dismissed," the judges said in their ruling.

On Oct 22 last year, Chidambaram was granted bail by the Supreme Court in the INX Media case.

The bail was granted by a bond of Rs. 1 lakh.

Later in December, he was granted bail by the apex court in the same case that was probed the Enforcement Directorate too.

The court had then observed that the former union minister participated in the investigation of the case and asked him to do so in future.

He was prohibited from travelling abroad or speaking to the media about the case.

Chidambaram was arrested by the CBI on Aug 21 last year for allegedly committing corruption by facilitating a huge flow of foreign funds to INX media when he was the Finance Minister. He was sent to Tihar jail on Sept 5.

The CBI has also laid allegations on Chidambaram’s son Karti for receiving huge kickbacks for facilitating the deal.

The Enforcement Directorate had also arrested Chidambaram in the same case and took the former Finance Minister in its custody till Oct 24.
