India, China addressing current situation in border areas, refrain from speculations: Indian Army
New Delhi/UNI: Amid the ongoing high-level military talks between two nations, the Indian Army on Saturday said the officials of India and China were engaged through established military and diplomatic channels to address the current situation in the border areas of Eastern Ladakh.
''At this stage, any speculative and unsubstantiated reporting about these engagements would not be helpful and the media is advised to refrain from such reporting,'' an Indian Army Spokesperson said in a statement here.
The crucial military talks at Lieutenant General-level between India and China began on Saturday to resolve over a month-long stalemate at the borders in Eastern Ladakh.
The meeting, being held at Moldo meeting point on Chinese side, was being led by 14 Corps Commander Lieutenant General Harinder Singh on Indian side, while the Chinese side of the delegation was represented by South Xinjiang Military Division Corps Commander Major General Lin Liu.
China appointed Maj Gen Liu two days back, indicating softening on its stands on border row with India.
On Friday, the joint-secretary-level diplomatic talks were held between two neighbouring nations.
Both sides agreed that in accordance with the guidance provided by their leadership, they ''should handle their differences through peaceful discussion, bearing in mind the importance of respecting each other's sensitivities, concerns and aspirations and not allowing them to become disputes,'' the Ministry of External Affairs said in a statement.
Tension built up along the LAC, following violent clashes between hundreds of Indian and Chinese troops in the Sikkim and Ladakh sectors last month.
