Viridhunagar, Nov 28 (IBNS): In a shocking incident, a class VIII student was stabbed to death inside the classroom by an unidentified assailant, media reported.

The incident took place on Friday morning around 9 am in Government High School in Pandalkudi of Viridhunagar district in Tamil Nadu.

According to reports, the victim, G. Baskaran was sitting inside the classroom.

Suddenly, the attacker, also reportedly a minor, entered the class and stabbed the 13-year-old with a sharp-edged weapon, just before classes began.

The gruesome incident left other students, who were present in the class in utter shock.

It has been learnt that the boy died on the way to the Aruppokottai government hospital.

The attacker, suspected to be from the same village as the student, however is absconding.

"They appear to have had a dispute in the village. We are investigating," said a senior police officer.

Police have started a manhunt.

The school was closed immediately.

Tension prevailed outside the hospital after the relatives of the deceased boy blocked the road for 15 minutes.

They demanded that the accused be arrested at once. Family members further said that the boy was quiet and shy.

They were unaware of the motive behind the murder.
