Srinagar/UNI: Police on Monday said that the Doda district in Jammu region has become ‘militancy- free’ after the last surviving militant was killed along with two others in an encounter with security forces in south Kashmir district of Anantnag.

“With today’s operation at Khull Chohar Anantnag by Anantnag Police along with 19 RR, CRPF in which two Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) militants, including one district commander, and one Hizbul Mujahideen commander Masood Ahmad Bhat were neutralised, Doda district in Jammu Zone becomes totally militancy free once again as Masood was the last surviving militant of Doda District,” a police spokesperson said here on Monday.

He said Masood was absconding in a case and later joined Hizbul Mujahideen.

“The Hizbul Mujahideen commander shifted his area of operation to Kashmir,” the spokesperson added.

He said one AK-47 rifle and two pistols were recovered from the encounter site.
