Srinagar/UNI: Two militants were killed while a Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO) was among three soldiers injured in an encounter which ensued after security forces launched a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) in south Kashmir district of Kulgam on Saturday.

A police spokesperson said that troops of Rashtriya Rifles (RR), Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir police and CRPF launched a joint search operation at village Arrah in Kulgam district this afternoon.

However, he said when security forces were moving towards a particular area, militants hiding there opened indiscriminate firing with automatic weapons.

“Security forces retaliated, ensuing in an encounter,” he said.

“An unidentified militant was so far killed,” official sources said, adding that three soldiers, including a JCO received minor injuries.

“The injured have been rushed to Army’s 92 base hospital,” they added.

He said one more militant was killed this evening and operation was still going on when the reports last came in.

Meanwhile, additional security forces have been deployed in the adjacent areas to prevent any law and order problem.
