Woman area commander of CPI Maoists arrested in Giridih

Giridih/UNI:  A female area commander of the proscribed CPI Maoists has been arrested in a joint operation by the district police and CRPF from forest of Gamhara village under Khukhara Police Station area of this district.

The female ultra also carried an award of Rs 2 lakh on her head.

Briefing the press Giridih SP Amit Renu said an information had been received that area commander of the CPI Maoists Sunita alias Kaushalya alias Rama would be meeting some of the cadres of the outfit in the forest to plan a major incident.

Following the tip-off a team of Giridih Police alongwith D/154th battalion of CRPF conducted search operations during which a woman in suspicious manner was spotted inside the forest. The SP said that when asked to stop she started to flee but was chased and caught by the women police personnel.

He said that the woman area commander hails from Chetkharna village under Chatrochatti Police Station area of Bokaro district and was wife of area commander Santosh Mahto alias Sanjay Mahto alias Basudeo.

The SP said that she had been associated with the maoists since 2000 and was currently operating in Jhumra, Kasmar and Parasnath areas.A total of 9 cases are registered against her in separate police stations of Bokaro district and another 4 in different police stations of Giridih.
