Assam reduces home quarantine period to 7 days, state's Covid-19 tally now 29,921

Guwahati/IBNS: The Assam government has decided to reduce the home quarantine period for Covid-19 patients from 14 days to 7 days.

The Assam Health & Family Welfare department has issued an order and stated that, with the evolving situation and with new findings about the Covid- 19 disease, it has decided to reduce the number of days of period of home quarantine from 14 days to 7 days.

The state government has also decided to provide essential items worth Rs 2,000 to the quarantined families living under Below Poverty Line (BPL).

Assam Health minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma said that, with the evolving situation, the Assam government has decided to reduce the home quarantine period after discharge from hospital to 7 days.

The state Health department order stated that, "Deputy Commissioners are authorized to extend this benefit to other families too like elderly, ailing, divyang etc., if deemed necessary to mitigate hardship."

On the other hand, the state has registered 1,130 positive cases for the deadly virus in the last 24 hours and with the new cases the state tally has now reached 29,921.

Out of the new cases, 417 cases have been reported from Guwahati city alone.

Himanta Biswa Sarma tweeted, "1130 new #COVID cases detected in Assam; 417 in Guwahati, Cachar 104. Out of 16178 samples in the last 24 hrs, we recorded low positivity rate of 6.98%. Total cases 29921, Recovered 20699, Active cases 9143, Deaths 76.”
