Kashmir: Editor detained under 107 CrPC, shifted to central Jail, Srinagar
Srinagar/UNI: Editor of a south Kashmir news website “ Kashmiriyat” Qazi Shibli was booked under Section 107 of Criminal Procedure Code ( CrPC) and shifted to Central Jail, Srinagar, official sources said.
They said under Section 107, CrPC, a Magistrate has the power, in cases of emergency when a breach of the peace is imminent, to order the accused person to furnish security pending the completion of inquiry. The law allows pre-emptive detention of a person based on suspicion.
Shibli, a resident of Anantnag, was summoned by police before it on Friday in Srinagar. Accompanied by some relatives appeared before the police and was later lodged in police station Shergari in the uptown after questioning. However, he was shifted to Central Jail, Srinagar, on Monday. It was not immediately clear if he was produced before any magistrate before he was shifted to Central Jail.
Shibli was detained In July last year under the Public Safety Act and lodged in UP’s Bareilly jail for nine months before his release.
