Maharashtra: Three employees detained for embezzlement, faking robbery in Thane
Thane/UNI: Three staff members of an online grocery portal were detained for embezzling Rs 2.20 lakh and faking it to be a robbery, police said here on Tuesday.
The trio accused have been identified as Manoj Boricha (32, manager), Prasad Nikam (27, staff) and Ganpat Prajapati (21, cashier).
Talking to UNI, Navi Mumbai Crime Branch senior Inspector N B Kolhatkar stated, "On August 8, the staff of the shop lodged a complaint that unidentified persons had broke into the shop and robbed cash worth Rs 2.20 lakh."
"Subsequently, the NRI police station, under whose jurisdiction the shop is located, registered an offense under the IPC section 380 (theft) and started the probe," he added.
During the course of invesgitation, it was discovered that the accused have embezzled the funds and cooked up the robbery story to cover up the crime.
The firm's audit report further corroborated the fact as there was shortage of Rs 2.20 lakh in cash reconciliation. Further probe into the case is underway, told police.
