Ballia/UNI: Six accused were arrested in connection with the murder case of a TV journalist who was shot dead late Monday night in Uttar Pradesh's Ballia, police said.

The journalist, who has been identified as Ratan Singh, 42, was shot dead after an altercation with his neighbours over some land dispute, police said.

The incident happened at the house of the village pradhan in Fefna area of the district late Monday night.

After the incident, local media personnel blocked the highway to protest the murder.

The police immediately arrested six people, including Dinesh Singh the main accused.

However, the father of the deceased journalist has ruled out any land dispute behind the murder and alleged that the police was trying to make it a land dispute issue to scuttle the case.

Meanwhile, state Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has announced an ex-gratia of Rs 10 lakh to the family of the deceased.

The CM has also expressed his deepest condolences and also directed that all possible action be taken against the accused, informed Additional Chief Secretary Home Awanish Awasthi, here on Tuesday.

On the other hand, BSP president Mayawati and Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra have slammed the Yogi Adityanath government over the rise in the crime rate in the state and murder of the journalist.
