Sushant death: Narcotics Control Bureau starts drug probe against Rhea Chakraborty over phone chats
Mumbai/IBNS: In a new twist to the Sushant Singh Rajput death case, the Narcotics Control Bureau has started an investigation following fresh allegations linked to WhatsApp chats reportedly recovered from his girlfriend and actress Rhea Chakraborty's phone.
The Narcotics Control Bureau has initiated an inquiry under legal sections related to possessing, purchasing and using Cannabis and "abetment and criminal conspiracy to commit an offence" under the anti-drug law.
However, Rhea's lawyer has denied all allegations that the 28-year-old actress was in touch with drug dealers.
"Rhea Chakraborty has never consumed drugs in her life time ever. She's ready for a blood test any time," her lawyer said in a statement.
The Narcotics Control Bureau is the latest agency to be associated with the death probe of Sushant Singh Rajput after that of Enforcement Directorate and the Central Bureau of Investigation.
The Mumbai Police and Patna Police also probed the case earlier which has triggered massive speculation and several conspiracy theories over the last two months.
Sushant, who was born in Bihar, had committed suicide at his own flat in Mumbai's Bandra on Jun 14.
Though the Mumbai Police initially stated it to be a suicide case, Sushant's father KK Singh lodged a First Information Report (FIR) with Bihar Police alleging that Sushant's girlfriend Rhea Chakraborty had siphoned off Rs 15 crore from his son's account and other accounts of companies floated with his investments.
As per the recommendation by the Bihar government, the death case was handed over to the CBI by the central government.
The CBI began its probe last week by questioning the Bollywood star's staff member and meeting the Mumbai cops.
However, the central probe agency has not yet summoned Rhea Chakraborty.
According to media reports, fresh allegations against Rhea suggest that her phone messages include an alleged conversation about procuring drugs with a person saved on her phone as 'Miranda Sushi'.
As per reports, Sushi was a nickname for Sushant and Miranda probably refers to Samuel Miranda, his manager, who was questioned by the CBI on Tuesday.
