CBI probe into allegations of drug links against Modi biopic maker Sandip Ssingh: Maharashtra Minister Anil Deshmukh

Mumbai/IBNS: The Shiv Sena-led Maharashtra government has decided to take on BJP against its accusations of “overlooking” the charges of drug use surrounding actor Sushant Singh Rajput’s unusual death to shield those who are close to the ruling parties, said media reports.

Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh said on Saturday that he will call for an investigation into the allegations against filmmaker Sandip Ssingh, who had made Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s biopic just ahead of 2019 Lok Sabha elections, saying he had received a lot of complaints against him.

Questioning Sandip Ssingh’s relationship with BJP as well as with Bollywood and drugs, Anil Deshmukh said, the CBI will investigate the allegations. “I've got many complaints about that too. We will forward these requests for investigation," Deshmukh was quoted as saying by NDTV.

The Congress, which is the coalition partner with Shiv Sena and Anil Deshmukh’s party Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), had on Friday demanded that the “BJP angle” in Sushant Singh Rajput death case should be probed, highlighting the political blame game being played around the death of the actor.

State Congress spokesperson Sachin Sawant also claimed that CBI will interrogate Sandip Ssingh over the drug charges, reported NDTV.

"There is a definite BJP angle to it. CBI will investigate producer of PM Modi''s biopic in drug dealing. This is very serious... Is that why there was a hurry to bring in CBI into the probe. When there are several top producers in Bollywood, why was Sandip Ssingh chosen to helm the project?" Sawant was quoted as saying in the report.

"The Chief Minister, Home Minister should probe the nexus between Bollywood, drugs and BJP... The links between BJP and Bollywood is well known. Was the demand for CBI pursued to save somebody? Maharashtra government should probe this angle," he said, the report added.

Responding to this, Maharashtra BJP spokesperson Keshav Upadhaye refuted Sawant's demand and shared a link to an article published in 2015 which said Smita Thackeray, daughter-in-law of Bal Thackeray, was planning a biopic with Sandip Ssingh on the late Shiv Sena supremo.

"Do your homework. Will you find a link in this too," Upadhye asked, according to the NDTV report.

The allegations and counter-allegations of drug links were triggered after the Narcotics Control Bureau launched an investigation following Sushant Singh Rajput’s girlfriend Rhea Chakraborty’s WhatsApp chats, reportedly, indicated the involvement of drugs.
