Punjab announces seven-day state mourning as tribute to Pranab Mukherjee
Chandigarh/IBNS/UNI): The Punjab government led by Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh has announced a seven-day state mourning in the honor of former President Pranab Mukherjee, who passed away at New Delhi Monday evening.
A spokesperson of the Punjab government said that as a mark of respect to the departed leader, the national flag would fly at half-mast in all the Government buildings and there would be no official entertainment in the state.
The former president passed away here at Army R&R Army Hospital on Monday, after prolonged illness. He was 84.
Mukherjee was admitted in the hospital on August 10 in a critical condition. He had a large brain clot, for which he underwent an emergency life-saving surgery. He was also found to be suffering from COVID-19.
