Former Finance Secretary Rajiv Kumar becomes new Election Commissioner
New Delhi/IBNS: Former Finance Secretary and retired IAS officer Rajiv Kumar became the new Election Commissioner of India on Tuesday.
Kumar, who is a retired Indian Administrative Service officer of the 1984 batch from Jharkhand cadre, has replaced Ashok Lavasa as the Election Commissioner.
He has more than 30 years of experience in public policy and administration in several sectors. He holds BSc and LLB degrees, along with a Master of Public Policy and Sustainability.
Kumar is expected to oversee India's next General Elections in 2024.
Lavasa is joining Asian Development Bank as its vice president.
