Police will reopen old report on drug mafia: Karnataka Home Minister
Bengaluru/UNI: Karnataka Home Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Saturday said that the state government will reopen an eight-year old probe report to crackdown the drug mafia.
Talking to the media here, the minister said, the Additional Chief Secretary (Home) will examine the report prepared by former Deputy Speaker N Yogish Bhat in 2012 and steps will be taken to implement them.
"The state has to make efforts in all directions scientifically and with the use of technology to crack the drug menace," said Bommai, through a video conference with the police officials.
"The operation currently underway in Bengaluru makes it clear that drugs are coming into our state from other states and overseas," he said.
The minister also said that vigilance will be stepped up in Bengaluru through all check posts with raids.
About Tourism Minister CT Ravi’s statement on pressure being exerted on the police, Bommai clarified, "What (Ravi) said is right. Since influential people are involved, there will be attempts to mislead the investigation. However, there’s no question of bowing down to any pressure. Police have been given full powers to take indiscriminate, impartial and lawful action."
