India conveys strong protest to Saudia Arabia for removing Jammu Kashmir, Ladakh from Indian map on special G20 banknote

New Delhi/IBNS: India has communicated its "serious concern" to Saudi Arabia over "incorrect depiction of India's external territorial boundaries" in a banknote issued recently by the middle-eastern country, the External Affairs ministry said today.

The note, issued by Saudi Arabian Monetary Authority on October 24 to mark the occasion of Saudi presidency of the G20, omitted Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh from India in a world map, said the Ministry of External Affairs in a press briefing.

The note depicted Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh as separate territory, distorting the Indian map, which many also perceived a major Saudi diplomatic snub to Pakistan.

"We have conveyed our serious concern to Saudi Arabia, both through their Ambassador in New Delhi as well as in Riyadh, for this gross misrepresentation of India's external territorial boundaries on an official and legal banknote of Saudi Arabia and asked the Saudi side for taking urgent corrective steps in this regard," the ministry said.

"I would like to further reiterate that the entire Union Territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh are integral parts of India," the ministry spokesperson said.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has tried to strengthen ties with Suadi Arabia in a bid to put pressure on Pakistan, one of the closest allies of the Arab nation. Last year, the Prime Minister also did away with protocols to welcome Saudi Arabia's Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman at a New Delhi airport.
