S Jaishankar urges GCC members to facilitate return to work for Indian workers, professionals
New Delhi: External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Tuesday urged members of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) to facilitate the return of Indian workers to the Gulf nations for work through sustainable travel bubble arrangements.
"EAM mentioned that a large number of Indian workers and professionals are now eager to return to the GCC countries to resume their work. He urged the GCC leadership to facilitate their return through sustainable travel bubble arrangements with India," read a statement issued by the Ministry of External Affairs.
He made the statement during the annual political dialogue with the GCC Troika. This year the meet was held virtually.
EAM thanked the GCC countries for taking care of the large Indian diaspora in their countries during the Covid-19 pandemic, read the statement.
"India had also taken special care to ensure the return of Indian health professionals to GCC countries and for supply of medicines and other essential items during the pandemic," the statement said.
"Both sides reaffirmed that they will continue to work together to tackle Covid-19 situation," the statement said.
