Kolkata/IBNS: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Tuesday held a Border Security Force (BSF) commandant for his alleged involvement in a cattle smuggling racket operating at India-Bangladesh border in West Bengal, sources said.

According to sources in the central probe agency, following a marathon interrogation of almost seven hours, former commandant of BSF's 36th Battalion- Satish Kumar, who is currently posted in Chhattisgarh's Raipur, was arrested for not cooperating with the investigating officers.

CBI sources claimed that BSF commandant Satish Kumar avoided answering many questions of the investigating officers while his several answers could not satisfy the CBI sleuths.

"BSF officer Satish Kumar was posted as a commandant in Murshidabad district of West Bengal in 2017 and he was engaged with an international cattle smuggling racket which was active at India-Bangladesh border in the state," a CBI official said.

CBI investigators claimed that Satish Kumar used to give protection to the cattle smuggling racket during that time and earned crores from the smuggling syndicates.

Officials said that Satish Kumar's name was mentioned in the top of an FIR which was registered by the CBI in connection with the case while his Salt Lake residence was searched earlier.

Besides Satish Kumar, the CBI has booked three more persons- Enamul Haque, Anarul Sheikh and Mohammed Golam Mustafa-in connection with the cattle smuggling case.

Last week, Enamul Haque was nabbed from Delhi and he is currently under isolation in Kolkata after testing positive for Covid-19.

Meanwhile, BSF commandant Satish Kumar will be produced before a court on Wednesday.
