Farmers Protest: Ambala man who turned off water cannon charged with attempt to murder
New Delhi/IBNS: A young man from Haryana's Ambala, who was called a "hero" on social media for turning off water cannon in an iconic moment during the farmers protest, has been charged with an attempt to murder, media reports said.
Navdeep Singh, 26, was seen in a video climbing a water cannon vehicle and turning it off.
"After my studies, I started doing farming with my father who is a farm leader. I never indulged in any illegal activities and got courage from the commitment of protesting farmers to climb the vehicle and turn off the tap as it was hurting them," Navdeep, who was one of the thousands of farmers protesting against the Centre's farm laws, told The Times of India.

The farmers, who were heading from Punjab and Haryana, were water cannoned and tear gassed by police.
The Centre's new farm laws will now allow farmers to sell their produce to institutional buyers beyond the regulated wholesale market.
However, farmers and opposition leaders criticised the Centre's move stating small peasants will have little bargaining power while selling their produce to institutional buyers, running the risk of getting exploited.
