Pune: Indian PM Narendra Modi on Saturday visited Pune's Serum Institute of India, which is working on the coronavirus vaccine, and interacted with the team at the Institute.

"They shared details about their progress so far on how they plan to further ramp up vaccine manufacturing," read a government statement.

In a tweet, the Prime Minister said, "Had a good interaction with the team at Serum Institute of India. They shared details about their progress so far on how they plan to further ramp up vaccine manufacturing. Also took a look at their manufacturing facility."  

The institute's CEO Adar Poonawala thannked PM and tweeted: "Thank you @narendramodi for visiting @SerumInstIndia . We share your vision and continue to work towards ensuring a safe and secure India."

The PM earlier in the day visited  Bharat Biotech International Limited (BBIL) at Genome Valley in Shamirpet and reviewed the progress on the manufacturing of indigenous COVID-19 vaccine 'Covaxin'.

In Ahmedabad, he reviewed the vaccine development process at the Zydus Cadila research centre in Changodar industrial area.
