Bengal: BJP activist killed in Siliguri due to effects of shotgun injuries, claim police

Kolkata/IBNS: The West Bengal Police on Tuesday claimed the death of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) activist, who was killed during the party's march in Siliguri a day ago, occurred due to the effects of shotgun injuries.

Citing the post-mortem report, the police made the claim denying its role behind the killing contrary to the allegations levelled by the BJP.

The police tweeted, "As per the PM report “death was due to the effects of shotgun injuries.” Police do not use shotguns. It’s obvious that during yesterday’s protest in Siliguri, armed persons were brought and they fired from firearms."

"The deceased received pallet injuries from a shotgun fired from close range by a person standing near the deceased in the protest program. This is unprecedented. Bringing armed persons in protest programs and inciting them to fire is unheard off."

"There was a malafide intention to create violence by the use of firearms. CID West Bengal has been asked to investigate. Truth will come out and strong action will be taken against all those who planned and executed the heinous crime."

The BJP claimed that a 50-year-old party worker from Jalpaiguri's Gajoldoba, Ulen Roy, was seriously injured in a clash with police during its Uttar Kanya Cholo rally in Siliguri, and he was rushed to a local hospital where the man succumbed to his injuries.

The incident occurred during a march to temporary north Bengal secretariat Uttar Kanya called by the BJP's youth wing, Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM), on Monday.

In protest against the incident, the BJP called a 12-hour bandh (strike) in north Bengal on Tuesday.

Slamming the ruling Trinamool Congress, BJP leader Kailash Vijayvargiya said, "We will not leave it. We will ensure the murderer is jailed."

Supporting the police's claim, West Bengal Minister and Trinamool veteran, Subrata Mukherjee, on Tuesday, "One section of the BJP has killed the person. Any death is unfortunate but police didn't resort to violence. Police were restrained yesterday."
