Amit Shah arrives Kolkata to huge welcome on Friday night
Kolkata/IBNS: Amit chants of Jai Shree Ram, Union Home Minister Amit Shah arrived in Kolkata on Friday night on a two-day visit to monitor the party affairs as the assembly polls draw close triggering high-octane political activites that pitted the state's ruling TMC against a strong challenger, the BJP.
The state’s ruling Mamata Banerjee led Trinamool Congress is hit by the exit of its leaders and MLAs including the heavyweight Suvendu Adhikari who could join the saffron party.
Reports said Shah is scheduled to visit Adhikari's political bastion Medinipur on Saturday.
He is likely to pay respects to freedom fighter Khudiram Bose in the region and meet a kin of his.
Amit Shah is scheduled to visit Santiniketan in Birbhum district and also meet Vice-Chancellor Bidyut Chakraborty on the campus.
Meanwhile, the VIP Security Section under the Union Ministry of Home Affairs has allotted 'Z' category CRPF security cover along with an armoured vehicle to former TMC minister Suvendu Adhikari, a day before the senior leader is likely to join the BJP at Amit Shah's Medinipur rally, reports said.
"The security arrangement for Suvendu Adhikari has been examined in this Ministry in consultation with Central security agencies and it has been decided to provide 'Z' category CRPF security cover with BR (Ballistics Rating) vehicle in West Bengal and 'Y+' category CRPF security cover in other states," an MHA order read.
Days ago, rebel Suvendu Adhikari resigned from all positions he used to hold as well as quit the Trinamool Congress party, and gave up the state provided security cover.
