West Bengal: Several BJYM activists injured as police lathicharge during agitation in Khardah
Kolkata/IBNS: Several Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) activists, including a few women, were seriously injured as police restored to lathicharge during an agitation outside Khardah Police Station in North 24 Parganas district of West Bengal on Wednesday night over the arrest of a local BJYM leader, reports said.
According to reports, local police on Wednesday evening arrested local BJYM leader, Bullet Roy, for allegedly carrying an illegal firearm following which party workers at a large number had blocked Barrackpore Trunk (BT) Road and started a demonstration outside Khardah Police Station.
Later, a heavy police force along with Rapid Action Force (RAF) personnel rushed to the scene and police resorted to lathicharge to disperse the protesters.
The BJYM claimed that at least 40 of its workers, including several women activists, had been seriously injured in the lathicharge.
Local police officials said that at least six protesters had been arrested so far in connection with the demonstration at the police station.
Bengal BJP leaders alleged that police had arrested BJYM leader Bullet Roy in a false case and lathicharged the protesting Yuva workers without any provocation.
