Srinagar/IBNS/UNI: Militants opened fire at the security forces on Tuesday after forces launched a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) in the Parimpora area of capital city Srinagar.

Official sources said that following specific information about presence of militants, a joint CASO was launched by Special Operation Group (SOG) of J&K police, Army and CRPF at Hokersar in the city outskirts.

However, they said when security forces were moving towards a particular area, militants hiding there, fired at them with automatic weapons. “The security forces retaliated, ensuing in an encounter,” they said.

Cordon has been strengthened to track down the militants, they said, adding that reinforcements have been rushed to the area to further to foil any attempts by militants to escape.
